I'm going to start referring to 0biden as

So I was fabbing up some mounts for fog lamps-

And needed to tap some holes.
I have the taps, but not the holder- because as little as I use them, it's not worth paying for.
I couldn't find a small enough adjustable wrench to hold the tap, so I used a Vice-grips. But it kept snapping off when it started to dig in.
So I went to the welding box because I was sure I had that good black 8" wrench in there. Nope.
But I did see my gauge wrench that might work.

Daym Skippy!

I probably need to harden it before I use it again, though....

Be prepared for freezing temps.

40 and windy feels a lot colder than 32 and calm.
Modern horses evolved on the steppes of northern Europe with brutal cold winters.

I'm going to get ahead of this right now.

A polling machine is nothing but a glorified adding machine. WHY does it need to be connected to the internet and have votes shipped somewhere besides the election headquarters?

All the way up to Y2K and the FLA kerfuffle- we knew who the winner was that night.
Now that the Dems got what they wanted in Y2K -it takes days or weeks to decide who won.

When are we going to start hearing about the bags of Democrat votes "found" in abandoned warehouses nobody's been to in years?
When are we going to be hearing about the votes "accidentally" left in rental cars returned yesterday?

Will Republicans act like anything other than the slightly more responsible side of the Uniparty?
My bet is -NO.

And I ended up having to buy a Ford, because the Z-71 Sierra had dashboard lighting problems.

Oak trees

There are many different species of oaks, but they are basically divided into White Oaks and Red oaks.
Red Oaks have more varieties than White oaks.

Red Oak acorns need stratification, but White oaks don't.
Post Oaks are White Oaks, so I can directly plant the acorns that dropped into planters and set them out on the porch.

Oak trees are hardy and don't need special care once germinated as long as you don't damage the roots in replanting.

I am going to start acorns in foot long bags on the porch and hopefully enough will survive to be planted to make path from our island of oaks to the forest that we are separated from- about 150 yards.

Something wierd happened yesterday

And I'm still trying to figure out.

I'm in the process of putting in a new panel box- with a new meter to replace the 75 year old panel box that was feeding a mixture of knob and tube wireing and ancient fabric Romex.

It's basically a completely separate circuit except where it gets fed from the transformer. I ran a new line to the 220V well pump and put in the double pole breaker -It's a GE instead of the Square D the other one is- I accidentally put that breaker on the same phase (GE is different than Square D) and came in the house.

The kitchen lights and everything on that circuit didn't work- until they wanted to. I KNOW I didn't touch that breaker, and everything looks good.

Then the wife said we didn't have water-- which is when I found out about not having the pump on two different phases. I moved it and now EVERYTHING works like it's supposed to.

HOW did sending two of the same phase to my well pump affect one circuit on a completely different panel box- with different feed (old one is #4 triplex overhead) into it?

Gawd, what an expensive week

But first, your Monday Rule 5 puzzle.

Yeah, it's a jumble, kinda like the weekend was.

Borrowed the neighbors backhoe about two weeks ago (or three?) got the trench from the new meter to the house dug and threw the conduit in and started covering it up before the sky opened up on and off for the rest of the week- when I found that forgot how shallow I buried the animal water line and electric.
Then, when I got close to the house, I found a tee from the main water from the well to the house *fuck!*

Yesterday I got everything else for the run- and 100' of 1/2" PEX to replace the bent and expose old water line.
$500 for 210" of #2 stranded and #4 ground.

So I got everything dug up (without hitting the conduit) and reburied and reconnected.
Animal water -good
Outside electric (and internet by the fence)- done and coming out of the new main box.
GVEC came in and hung a new meter box and complete 150 amp panel when I just asked for a new meter and main cut-off for $350  because we already have a house.

Then I found out we had no water. Fuck!
Looked at the pressure switch and no spark when I moved the contacts. Walk 100 yds to the shed for the Fluke and find out I have no power in... sometimes
So back to the hole that's still open for the fiber installer to see what's down there and see a break in the insulation of the underground romex. It was hot but corroded. HMMmm one reason for the bad phase leg....
Cut it and tied the two legs together and rang it out at the switch..... nothing. CRAP! Now I have to run a new power wire out to the well for domestic water.

This time it'll be in conduit and buried more than six inches deep..... Next weekend because I'm working for the rest of the week.

So I got a text from the wife yesterday

*Have yo ever heard of Indianola?*
"IIRR- it was wiped out by a hurricane over 100 years ago."

So she comes up- she's been reading the history of Seguin, TX and I guess a lot of survivors migrated from there and apparently Indianola is a thriving tourist trap now, and she wanted to know if I'd want to visit..... or move there.

"Last time I was there (about 20 years ago) it had one badly maintained two lane road and all the sewer manholes in the entire county were towers about 5' high."
*Why so high?*
"Because that's how high tidal surges get normally. It floods a lot."

*What about going out on a boat deep sea fishing?*
"I'll pay for you to go if you want."
*Why won't you go with me?*
"I get sea sick."
*You were in the Navy....?...*
"I was a SeaBee"
*That's part of the Navy.*
"Seabees don't go on ships."
*We've been married all this time and you never said anything about that."

"I was a Dirt Sailor."
*I've never heard that before*

That's one reason this tat doesn't have fouled anchors or cannons and my green field jacket says Navy on the tape and a Seabee patch on the pocket.

Everything and (almost) everyone.

They tried to force a questionable vaxx on the entire country with almost no exceptions- medical or religious.

Now the newest thing down the pike to pie elections id Monkeypox.
Which for some reason is RACIST!!! ....because monkeys- or sumpin.

But nobody is doing anything to stop the spread because doing so would be homophobic, and we need to let them do their thing and not be so harsh about slowing the spread.

Oh! And it's spread through bodily fluids and open sores, so be sure to wear a mask.

Your Monday Rule 5 puzzle for today

As usual -the big one below the break

Sunday, August 14, 2022

So I got a call

Actually it was a text from the wife telling me she ran over a mattress and it was wrapped around her wheel.

"A what?"
*A mattress I ran over and it's wrapped around my wheel*

"Send me a pic, which side?"
*Passenger side- wait, DPS just showed up..."

-I get a call that Roadside help (state funded) is on the way, but I'll need to come up and see what I can do, or get it towed back-

"Where are you?"
*At mile marker 449*
"On 35?"
*No, 130 toll road*
"You took that toll road to Phlugerville😦?"
*I was following Siri....*
"Let me grab some cutting utensils and I'll be on the way."

*Okay, the roadside guy took the tire off and the metal is wrapped all around the axle and he can't really do anything*
"I'm on my way, about an hour/45 minutes from you now."

~~I get there and see basically...this~

So I get the sawzall, which isn't doing shit because I loaned it to someone and I think he used it for a hammer because you have to hold the battery in with one hand while trying to cut .... springs... with the other.

I went to the cutoff wheel on the grinder and made some progress- until I couldn't go any more because of  the freed springs.
So here I go with the Lineman's pliers for a good 45 minutes just to clear up enough to go to work with the grinder again.

Oh........ did I mention we were on a bridge?
The cement shook and the truck wobbled whenever a steering wheel holder in a semi in the granny lane went past.

So I get enough  cut that it would clear the brake line and hooked a strap to whatever I could reach that looked like it wouldn't just unravel- and put the lose tire under the cab step because I was positive that I'd pull the truck off the jack.

The second time I reattached it, down the truck went, but we kept pulling.

Third time - JACKPOT!

So nothing got accomplished yesterday at all.

So this is the "new" plandemic they're trying to get going?

I was wondering about this Monkeypox plague we're supposed to worry about and I finally went looking, and found it on probably one of the more biased .GOV sites you could find....

"Monkeypox is a rare, viral infection that does not usually cause serious illness. However, it can result in hospitalization or death. That's why health officials in New York, the U.S., and around the world are monitoring cases of monkeypox in areas that do not usually report monkeypox infections, including in New York State.

While New Yorkers should not be alarmed, everyone should stay informed about monkeypox. This means understanding the symptoms, how it spreads, and what to do if you are exposed."

So THIS is the new way to pie the 2022 election?😕

How contagious IS it?

"Monkeypox spreads through close, physical contact between people. This means anyone can get monkeypox. However, based on the current outbreak, certain populations are being affected by monkeypox more than others, including men who have sex with men (MSM).

Based on previous outbreaks of monkeypox around the world, some groups may also be at heightened risk for severe outcomes if they contract monkeypox. This includes people with weakened immune systems, elderly New Yorkers, young children under 8 years of age, and pregnant people."

You mean like the tens of THOUSANDS of expensive old people that Cuomo sentenced to death with his order to place infected COVID patients in nursing homes???

A homemade sodastream

I did this home made carbonator and it works.

A refill for that 10 lb tank that'll probably last almost a year is about $20 at a welding shop.
I added a ball valve by the bottle, just because- you can pick it and two hose barbs (1/4") plus braided line for the pressure hose and two hose clamps at a DYI store.

I guess I need to dry them, then roast them.

It seems to work here for them.

I had to make deliveries in Corpus Christi last night

If you've never been there, you really don't need to make plans to go.

Corpus is like your trashy aunt and no matter where she goes or what she wears, trash will always show through.

AND I had to spend an extra half hour there in the port area because they're completely redoing the highway and surface roads for the new bridge over the Laguna Madre because of detours and closed ramps.

This tells you everything you need to know about Corpus in one sign.....

And that wasn't even in a bad part of town.

Democrats are just embracing Orwell

We have communist race theory where all animals are equal, but some are more equal than others.
Now Mayorkas has decided to form their version of the Ministry of Truth.

His top Bureaucrat in that position- Nina Jankowicz -is a BIG Never-Trumper who was out flogging both the laughably fake Steele dossier and the 'Hunters emails are Russian hoax' lies.

Even the lefties at MSN noticed.

Why would anyone with options want to be a cop in Chicago?

Or any other Liberal city that wants them gone?

Now Chi-town is trying to con Marines who are getting out to make that mistake.
Between the defunding, scapegoating, and just anti-cop attitude- why would anyone want that? The youngest asked me once what a self fulfilling prophesy was and I never thought it would be the PD.

You have the Left going after cops money and the DA's and City Board members attacking cops for everything they do.
The press jumps on anything and lies about how bad the cops are and what kind of lawless thugs they are.....
So the good ones find a new department in a Red city where they don't have to put up with the shit and the bad ones- racists, sadists, bullies, abusers..... All stay because they either like doing it or can't find something else. Then the city can't find good cops and the bad ones keep doing what they can get away with, the pols and press keep dumping on them and the only new cops they can hire are as bad- or worse than the bad cops they already have.

So I went to order a Henry

I went to three different merchants of death.

The Henry site has three dealers in the Seguin area, two of them are closed for good.
Of the two that weren't affiliates- both said Henry's are hard to lay hands on, no matter what model and caliber.

I went to the other affiliate halfway to New Braunfels and asked. They had me fill out a request form and told me it could be as long as a year before I saw mine.

So I went to gunbroker and bid on this one with the same MSRP as one on their site.
Of course I'll probably have to spend close to another $100 for shipping and transfer fees.

So I have an old Win '94 30-30

I went looking for ammo a while ago so I could finish sighting it in.

I bought it cheap-ish with a ghost ring site and started sighting it in, then something came up and it sat in the corner of the mud room for about three years.

After I decided to finally get it sighted in, I went looking for cheap (okay- less expensive) ammo.

Okay, we'll look at plan B- see what I can get for it ......
$200- $250......
I was bitching about it on a local FB page and started getting offers on it, but I had to start my 4- 14 hr shift the next day.

FB pulled it about three days in for selling fire arms. At least I didn't go to the restricted barracks this time.

I guess I could sell for $200 and use that to defray the cost of a Henry steel Big Boy in .357- which I have plenty of because of the two revolvers in that caliber plus the wife and her .38+P.

The only thing I don't like about Henry's (and it's probably a million to one chance I'd ever encounter this problem) is that after it gets pulled from the mag- it's free floating until it's shoved into the chamber.

If it ever comes to that, I'll be using the one the .GOV doesn't know I have.

Chambered in a completely different round.

Is this a hate crime?

So there I was making deliveries up in Killeen.
It was on the warm side, so I had my sleeves rolled up.
Out of McDonalds came this kid and his battle bud.
He saw my Seabee tat on my forearm and said Navy?!?

I said yes and his battle pinned my elbows behind my back.
This guy took off my cover and poured Rip-IT over my head, threw a handful of Motrin at me and yelled...
"This is Army country!"

Prices and parts availability

 It works for firearms too.

If anyone's been looking for 30-30 ammo, you'll know it's like gold- not profuse and expensive.
I bought three boxes for something like $1.50/RD plus tax and shipping.
Which the prices on gunbroker reflect.

The .357 Mag ammo I have in abundance (plus the .38spl +p) are a lot less for the ammo, but the prices for the rifles show the ammo is available and affordable.

So then I found out about two weeks after I bought those 30-30 boxes- that Seguin is having a gun show tomorrow.

So I guess I'll see what the have in .357 lever action flavor or Mini-14 which is about equal to what they want for a lever action.
And what I can get for a 30-30 Win and about four boxes of hunting ammo....

Prices for .223 are much more reasonable especially if you want to wear out your cartridge extractor a lot faster.

Because Kamala Harris (who's veep theme is here) explains what's going on in Ukraine.....

-Read this in the voice of a slow seven year old explaining to a five year old-
“So, Ukraine is a country in Europe. It exists next to another country called Russia. Russia is a bigger country. Russia is a powerful country. Russia decided to invade a smaller country called Ukraine. So basically, that’s wrong.”

From here with the actual soundbite.

Poland understands what's happening in Ukraine

They know what happens when countries guarantee to help defend them from invasions- but bag on that promise because it's inconvenient.............. Looking at you France and UK.

It's the same thing they're watching now when the US and UK don't step up and uphold their 1994 agreement to help defend Ukraine when they gave up their nukes.

Now  they're having a go at Germany for being so conforming to Russia and running interference on supplies to Ukraine.

I just voted in the Texas primary.

The list of wannabe Governors was as long as my arm.

The reason I remembered to vote was another attack ad from Don Huffines that sounds just like a Democrat attack ad.
The scary sounding announcers voice blaming Abbot for things he has no control over like instate tuition for illegals...right Rick Perry?(who also want to be Governor again)

Abbot lost me when his tough talk didn't match the (non) action, so I went with Col. West, and I'll vote for whoever's on the Republican ticket- probably.

So we paid off pur Wells-Fargo mortgage a week ago.

It finally went through with about a thousand Dollars extra of fees and other graft.

Yesterday they charged me a service fee of $15.
............and paid me  .08 of interest.

Now I have to decide whether to go with NFCU (which is on the west side of San Antonio -a good hour drive away)
Or to the local branch of RBFCU. I'm sure the interest is about the same for a checking account.
But NFCU is a Navy credit union and Randolph-Brooks is Air Force.
Not that it really matters because a Cloud Lice can do my finances as well as a Squid.

Is what it cost me to fill 150 propane tank today.
The driver said I was lucky I ordered it last week because they raised the price .20/gal Tuesday.

Last year about this time it was $1.87/gal.
Today I paid 2.86/gal.

So, we finally signed on the Hondo house today

The thing's been a PITA for years.

And since I won't be buying another new vehicle- because of prices and all the BS 'safety' features to put up with.
I'm looking at 3/4 ton diesel Chevy's and Dodges no newer than 2005 so I have options in fuel. Or an F-250 built before 1998 when Ford could still build good trucks.
The only thing gas is going to do is go up. On top of the 0biden war on fossil fuels and the oncoming shortage of fertilizer for food- That 10% ethanol is going to cost even more to put in your tank.
You know for sure that NOBODY in DeeCee is going to even think about putting the brakes on that mandate.

Forty years ago-

I was a little non-rate CECN and my Battalion was either just getting back from Guam or getting ready to deploy to Rota, Spain.
I'd been in for a little over a year- boot camp, BEEPs school, CE A-school meeting the battalion....

One of the two main reasons I enlisted was because the economy was so bad that I couldn't find a good job. Even trade unions weren't taking apprentices.

Fast forward to now and the 0biden-Harris regime is putting America back there again with Carters Stagflation on steroids and inflation  about the same.
We lost the cold war and are living in what looks more and more like a Central American republic. Graft, favoritism, schools and financial systems steered by political juntas and the fact of the day.

I have about 20-25 years left to endure, but I really feel bad for my kids and grandkids for whom this is the new soviet normal.

Doesn't like how he was treated for three months he spent in jail.
Michael Avenatti is suing the Bureau of Prisons for $94 million.

If he didn't like how he was treated there for disrespecting Trump... or something- he should be glad he wasn't taking a walk close to Capitol Hill on Jan. 6 last year.
He's hate it even worse in the DeeCee Gulag.

Tales from the shop

...Or the loafing shed since it was originally an animal shelter.

Finally got the band saw working without it throwing the blade (and rolling 50 yards). Had to get longer axle bolts and nylon locknuts.

Now I need to get real steel bearings for the back part of the blade because it's already eating at the Chinesium plastic rollers. H/D has what I can use in stock- finally.

It's moving faster than the wheels make it look.

And when you warp the threads on a nut from welding to a bolt, and don't have a thread chaser- you use abrasives.

Pressure canning

Since Slow Joe decided he's going to get Big Government to "do something" about the price of meat that "Big Meat" is costing the consumer...
I'm looking at a cheap, fatty roll of e-coli burger to cost $10/LB  when he's done.

So we decided to stock up now when meat is only fucking expensive and to preserve it.
I'd rather go the drying rout, but research says that drying without freezing only lasts about a year.

So the other potions are brining, salting or canning.

I tried pressure canning about 5 pounds of meat today- I'm still out on WC for my knee- why not? It's too cold to work on the band saw.

With prep time and the half hour it takes to just get the steam rolling out the vent (before waiting the 10 minutes to actually start cooking/canning. and the 90 minutes it takes to actually cook the jars at 11PSI (12 was steadier and I doubt more heat is a problem) we're looking at a good 2 1/2 hours before you can start waiting to for the canner to depressurize on it's own......
Which I'm doing now and don't know how long it'll take--- we're looking at an all day job of babysitting a glorified quick cooker.

At least humans have the supermarket.
