Prepping posts

I've looked at some prepping posts about dehydrating.

The wife got a dehydrator when she saw the grocery prices expected to climb through the roof.
We've been experimenting- frozen corn, peas, caramelized onion, carrots, parsnips...

She wants to vacuum seal the jars, but the little necked ones didn't work on her vacuum sealer, so instead of going through the hassle of doing the water bath thing- I tried the microwave thing.

The only difference between wet heat and warming the contents up to get a vacuum when it cools is water- I tried it. As herself was asking skeptically if I really thought it would work, we heard the "tink" of the lids.

If you slice your tomatoes and put them under a broiler for a while, you can dehydrate fire roasted tomato slices for the added flavor boost (don't know about electric ovens YMMV)

Trying meat next. I'll bet it from a meat market so I don't have to deal with all that red water the big stores inject it with.

Wierd...

A lot of my puzzles that show only partial boobs are blocked, but Kate Upton isn't.
She's showing the same, or more underboob than the others, but she doesn't have a weapon.

So maybe that two strikes against the others?
Or maybe I haven't tried sharing it?
Lets give it a try...

Here's the pic if they block it-

That the persecution of gays, females and people who watch sports is going to stop?

And please free up that $10 billion so we can use it to 'help' the people instead of using it to fund even moar terrorism :-)

I thought the adults were supposed to be back in charge

It looks more like a Jr. High snit war between popular chicks...or something- the way Joe and his ho were ignoring each other.

For some reason I can't link to the tweet video here, so you'll have to hit Twitchy for the optics.

Plus pResident Brandon had to ask Dr. Jill to move so he wouldn't get Kamala Cooties- or sumpin.

A Constitutional Convention?

So you have a Constitutional Convention- or Convention of States....
And it doesn't actually turn into a Communistic overturn somehow.

Just HOW are you thinking you'll be able to force anyone in DeeCee to obey this new constitution?

Leftist Democrats aren't going to probably even acknowledge it
The Woke military that's been purged and only looks to Miley isn't going to do anything to enforce it.
Even if the Republicans agreed with it- they lack the balls to do anything.

The same DoJ that tried a soft coup for four years would rather lock up the people who got in on that Convention of States.

So............. do we really want it to come to this and God only knows what'll happen when the silent majority get involved.

Veterans Day 2021

I'd like to thank my fellow Cold Warriors and those before and after.

We gave it a good try, and we thought we won.
And we had- for a while.
The Berlin wall came down, then the Soviet Union imploded.
And freedom was happening for a while.

Then the Socialists long march through the education system took root and (some)Americans started to push against traditional American values. The values that held this country together.

We have an Executive branch that was installed under a third world election and now is trying to force Americans to do what no other Communist country has done, or the Nazis.
Our economy is a dumpster fire. Our president is a puppet for whoever got him elected and the veep was so bad and unpopular that she had to drop out before Democrats could vote against her.
Two massively oppressive and socialistic bills are on the way to the figurehead's signature, The #3 is a senile hag who hates everything America stood for (except getting filthy rich by using her position) and even so-called Republicans voted for the Socialist bills.

I don't know- looking at Virginia, there may still be a way to take back pieces, but we'll never be the same.
I wish I could end this on a happy note...... But we'll see.

More on the well

Yes, I ended up cutting the casing. because the way things go here at Rancho Snakebit, if I just yanked it up to free the bushing- I'd end up separating the case at some glued joint twenty feet down.....

And I didn't lose the well pump like I was really worried about.
Because there's a reason it's called Snakebit ranch.
I made sure to have the makeshift pipe vise secured before letting loose of the rigging.
And yes- it was schedule 80 PVC with corroded couplings where they threaded it together.

Once we finally got the pump out, I didn't notice till this morning when I found I got the wrong kind of PEX.
So I decided to call Gajeske and get some HDPE water pipe and the right fittings.
$326 for 500' of 1" and two compression adapters. The neighbor said he's buy the last 300 feet when I'm done. So actually it ended up being cheaper than the way I was going to do it.

Lastly, as I was looking at the old pump, I saw this....

That pump motor was only held on by one nut.
Don't know if that was the problem, but it's not anymore.

Thursday, November 04, 2021

Let the goat roping begin

I had to go to four different stores to get everything I think I need.
As old as the well is, I figured it would be steel or PVC, so I got 200' of 1" PEX- I sounded the well rizer and got about 170' as I paced it.

That box looks like it's been opened, doesn't it?

And now- am I going to be able to break those probably 50+ year old rusted bolts on the well seal?

Wednesday, November 03, 2021

So- on the water front...

 Not the movie.

Well pump went out yesterday- I have power all the way to the well head, so it's either the pump or the capacitor.
After not getting a call back from three companies here in Seguin (I think it's something in the water)- I just ordered some $985 worth of submersible pump, PEX and fittings.
Tomorrow I pick it up in New Braunfels and try to get the tax off with my tax stamp and a discount with my VA card.....

The house in Hondo I couldn't find a leak except for a dripping hose bib.
Which required two 20 mile round trips to fix because Kurt was a dumbass and didn't take a good look at the size of the stand pipe threads (it was 3/4 instead of the 1/2" everything else is)

And the probable cause of the failure in burnt black....

It's had it's trouble single phasing for a while- I thought I got it fixed two years ago with cleaning and nolox, but obviously not.

Now it's cold and raining with a thunderstorm passing through.
Same thing tomorrow, so at least the animals water will be refreshed a little.

I DO have a leak

The water board turned off the house in Hondo because of excessive water use. It's empty and for sale.
I went over last week and turned the water back on to see if I could find anything and these new meters don't have that little triangle that shows water flow, so I left it on.
The youngest took a pic of the meter. It's used over 100 gallons in a week.

FUCK!

That stupid dumbass the oldest was going to marry fucked up some plumbing inside a wall, and I'd bet money its behind the shower he tore out and had to put back in.
He completely ruined that house. The master bath only needed trimout to be done.
It still does six years later. Christ.

I'm probably going to have to fix the floor, too.

And here at the farm, the well pump went out.

An AR refresher fo y'all

Because I couldn't remember how to zero an AR/M-16 after 30 years.

I remember having to go from one side of the rear site and count how many clicks to center and thought I remembered having to bottom the front site....

Guess you forget things.
But I remember (and why I was looking for the carrying handle) that when you get it sited at 50 MTRs, you're good for 100, 200 and 300 with just a flip of the back site.

What a complete load of crap.

 But, then it IS CNN.
Mumbles 0biden says he's wanting to use the National Guard to move cargo.
The WH says they haven't even considered it.

Even if they would- like NY is using NG for their healthcare problem-, most would come from somewhere in the transport industry itself. taking drivers off the road to replace drivers. Typical Leftist shortsightedness.  BUT WE'RE DOING SOMPIN!

The supply chain isn't really hurting, it's just denting Americans views on the economy..........

Experiments in dehydration -part 1

So the wife finally decided that I wasn't stupid to be getting more food than we'd use in about two weeks.
-So she bought a used dehydrator.

Her first go was mushrooms which seem to have turned out well.
Then she went to strawberrys........ which- we'll see. They're stuck to the screen right now waiting for her to process them.

I cannot find canned fire roasted tomatoes, so I thought I'd give it a try.
I sliced Roma tomatoes about a quarter inch thick (more or less) and put the first batch on a tin foils sheet on a pan. I figured at least it would save some clean up.
I use broil on high for 17 minutes, and the pan/sheet about the middle shelf.
Then it tried turning them over for another five minutes.

I got them out and the really thin ones were burnt to the foil.
After putting them on the drying rack I did the next batch (5 Romas to fill a baking sheet)

This time I crumpled the foil and used the back (clean) side for the same times.

When I pulled them out, all I did was stretch the foil and almost all fell right onto the drying rack.

WIN!

Now we'll see what happens in about seven hours.

AAR New Braunfels gun show

Wife wanted to go, so we went.
I'm kinda surprised that my knee held up so well.

Saw a lot of EBRs.
I was kinda looking for a .357 in something like a Marlin flavor -but not Rossi, I've seen too many problems with them.
I was also kinda looking for an old AR with a carrying handle - which are like unicorns.

Then the wife wanted something to drink and as we were passing another table ----- I saw it

An old AR I guess pre A-2 model with the slab sides and full 22" barrel with triangle guard.
He wanted $1300 for it.
So I passed- I couldn't convince myself to pay that much- again.

After sitting and the wife saying "I'm not telling you to buy it, but when you're ready- it's only going to be more expensive.
Plus I remembered the extra thousand I had from selling stocks when 0biden was finally installed, so...

We got to the booth again and someone had just bought it.

But I didn't walk away empty handed.

Different takes on happenings

I was listening to two different talk shows at work yesterday (and this morning- I guess....same workday) and each had it's own take on what the Democrats are doing.

The first one is a local host- Jack Riccardi on KTSA (and sounds a lot different than he looks)
Who thinks that the way the Democrat leadership (Pelosi, Schumer,,,Duckworth....) are acting not worried at all about how their support is completely crumbling because of the meat pupped 0biden's actions show something bigger is going on.
Pelosi and Schumer owe their cushy jobs to staying in power, and neither one seems to want to do anything to stop the slide.

The other hand has Redeye radio with the two hosts Gary McNamera and Eric Harley (who also look a lot different than they sound).

Who both think the Democrats are running scared because of the problems whoever is running 0biden is causing. They think Democrats know what's coming and are trying to get whatever they can of their anti-American agenda through before they're all out of power.

I don't know sometimes I think they're to crafty to get into trouble -because they're the party of lies and deceit and knifing an ally in the back- by creating such (on the surface) self owns and someone deep behind he scenes has it all planned out for them to win at whatever they're playing for.

Another part can't understand WHY they're letting this go on- why Pelosi isn't screaming at whoever is controlling 0biden to stop fucking up her  agenda.

"Keel moose and squirrel"

If you were old enough to enjoy then on Saturday mornings

In addition to producing animated series based on such characters as Crusader Rabbit, Rocky & Bullwinkle, Dudley Do-Right, Peabody and Sherman, Hoppity Hooper, George of the Jungle, Tom Slick, and Super Chicken, Joseph Ward Cohen Jr., also known as Jay Ward, founbded a company, Jay Ward Productions, that designed the trademark characters for the Cap'n Crunch, Quisp, and Quake breakfast cereals and made TV commercials for those products.
Ward and friend/partner Alex Anderson lost the rights to the Crusader Rabbit character in a legal fight with businessman Shull Bonsall, who had taken over the assets of the bankrupt Jerry Fairbanks company, and a new color Crusader Rabbit series under a different producer premiered in 1956. Ward then pursued an unsold series idea, "The Frostbite Falls Revue." Taking place in a TV studio in the North Woods, the proposed series featured a cast of eccentrics such as newsman Oski Bear and two minor characters named Rocky the Flying Squirrel and Bullwinkle J. Moose, described in the script treatment as a "French-Canadian moose."
Premiering on ABC in 1959 (and moving to NBC two years later), "The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends" contained a mix of sophisticated and low-brow humor. Thanks to Ward's genial partner Bill Scott (who contributed to the scripts and voiced Bullwinkle and other characters) and their writers, puns were used often and shamelessly: in a "Fractured Fairy Tales" featuring Little Jack Horner, upon pulling out the plum, Jack announced, "Lord, what foods these morsels be!" Self-referential humor was another trademark: in one episode, the breathless announcer (William Conrad) gave away the villain's plans, prompting the villain to grab the announcer from offscreen, bind and gag him, and deposit him visibly within the scene. The show skewered popular culture, taking on such subjects as advertising, college sports, the Cold War, and TV itself. The hapless duo from Frostbite Falls, Minnesota, blundered into unlikely adventures much as Crusader and Rags had before them, pursued by "no-goodnik" spies Boris Badenov and Natasha Fatale, perennially under orders to "keel moose and squirrel."
In a running-joke tribute to Ward, many of his cartoon characters had the middle initial "J.", presumably standing for "Jay" (although this was never stated explicitly). The cartoonist Matt Groening later gave the middle initial "J." to many of his characters as a tribute to Ward.
Ward fought many heated battles over content with the network and sponsor. The "Kirward Derby", a bowler hat that made everyone stupid and Bullwinkle a genius, was named (as a spoonerism) for Durward Kirby, sidekick of the 1950s and 1960s TV host Garry Moore and the co-host of Allen Funt's "Candid Camera." When Kirby threatened to sue, Ward quipped, "Please do! We need the publicity!"
An eccentric and proud of it, Ward was known for pulling an unusual publicity stunt that coincided with a national crisis. Ward bought an island in Minnesota near his home and dubbed it "Moosylvania," based upon the home of his Bullwinkle TV character. He and publicist Howard Brandy crossed the country in a van, gathering signatures on a petition for statehood for Moosylvania. They then visited Washington, D.C., and attempted to gain an audience with President John F. Kennedy. Unfortunately, they arrived at the White House the morning the Cuban Missile Crisis was breaking, and were ordered at gunpoint to drive off. (Wikipedia)
Happy Birthday, Jay Ward!
