So, did FB get hacked?

 Or is it just me?
All I've gotten all morning is that FireFox can't find facebook.com.

Maybe they decided to shadow ban me for my wrongthink.....
But when the throw me into the restricted barracks, they usually make me sign back in before I receive my punishment.

  6. Had a whistleblower. They probably took everything down for a good scrubbing.

  7. Facebook, Twitter and Instagram down. Employees reporting for work this AM could not get into the building-keycards and badges wiped?

  9. No hacking/nefarious motive needed. Direct result of:
    (a) interconnecting every last system for total dependence on the LAN (badge readers have to authenticate)
    (b) Offshoring your entire data center management and operations staff (nobody "at" the DC knows how to "fix" the DC). US data center operations are largely handled by teams in India and/or Egypt.
    (c) Putting things that should be in the LAN in the cloud.
    (d) Failing to follow required change management practice.

Emphasis on (d). As a former critical situation resolution specialist, I have seen this a hundred times at varying scales. When it happens to NASA or FEMA or some State government or credit card company, it doesn't make world news because the world isn't logged in to those agencies.

For all who depend on FAANG, there is a lesson here. The internet is only resilient inasmuch as it is distributed, redundant and to some degree, "messy." Eschew single points of failure, or, as my parents were wont to advise: no matter how few eggs you have, keep a lot of baskets handy.
