I got home to a malfunctioning modem and almost dead cell phone battery.
By the time I got enough charge to call the cable co, it was almost quitting time, so we couldn't do much Fri. night.
Monday, I'll be having them change the MAC address to my other modem and seeing if they can get a tech to check all the connections.

Now I get to catch up on all the patty bureaucrats who want to continue controlling our lives.
Like Julie Bass, the front yard gardener and her fight against the petty tyrants of Oak Park- who now want to go after her unlicensed-dogs-that-are-really-licensed.
Because of the news volume they went through on their first bad publicity stunt.
Now they laid off that front yard garden problem because of the media heat, so they can go after the dogs-that are-licensed, but not really- or some how she has to pay for the cities incompetence and overbearing state-ism.

And then we have another example of cops with nothing better to do than to harass three (white) teens for trying to stay out of trouble by circumventing the onerous
Bureaucracies of the city's financial betterment by operating a lemonade stand without getting probably over a hundred Dollars worth of approvals.

It occurred to me today

While I was working up a case of heat exhaustion and looking at the hundreds of ugly white wind turbines between Portland and Taft- that the "green energy" idea isn't about protecting the environment.

It's about controlling peoples lives and making sure they know it.
Just like those acres of solar power that don't work in the dark.

Those hundreds of fugly wind turbines that you can't get away from because the TX coastal planes are almost billiard table flat wouldn't make as much power as one nuke plant.
A nuke plant is green energy literally and figuratively, and it doesn't take square miles to produce energy only when the wind is blowing...BUT it's in a compact area that doesn't infringe on anyone's enjoyment of their surroundings.

The wave generators you only hear about in Science Illustrated make more, steady power than wind farms- but you can't see or hear them, so Libs don't like them because they're not in your face.

I went to Port Aransas today

I had some drops to take care of, and I had to make a small detour at the McDermott Yard (also known as Kellogg-Brown and Root) to take these two videos.

OR we have out (Ex) charter cable-n which is now something good.
In my new job,I'm burying cable for the guys putting new cable and internet in the ground.

I really shouldn't say this- --as a matter of fact, I think it's illegal according to my personnel booklet- but my cable that's 8 miles from the nearest city is better than the internet that's based in this city,m,,

Todays jobs ate my lunch

and then took my name.

I had 8 buries in Portland and they all took over an hour to do. I get $25 per drop, and if I can get 8 per day- I'm doing good.

Today I got six done. Because these were the hard ones that needed to get done- and everyone (including me) blew off I lost money and lots of patience.
But I got them done.

So in reference to my fortitude in getting these done- I'll be rewarded with --like 12 easy ones in Port A tomorrow, right?

I have earlier today let a job go for the city of Corpus Christi because this company is paying for a motel room on the coast.

The city will have some more jobs in about a month.

Different mindsets

Something Midwest Chick said made me remember when the wife first got here from Britain.

Midwest is talking about the floods up in the Dakotas, and the personal responsibility the people are showing...the Anti-Katrina mindset.

Anyway, when Karen first came over, she couldn't understand how we didn't want the .GOV involved in everything we did. I told her it was because we couldn't trust them to do it better than we could- mostly.

What I said was basically- you have had some kind of central gov't since the Romans were there. You've had gov't roads, some kind of gov't schooling, poor houses, laws from either Rome, the King, or London.

In America, once you got beyond the Appalachians- you were pretty much on your own.
You had to rely on your neighbors for anything you couldn't do yourself.
Neigbors got together for barn raisings, house raisings, taking care of those shifty people that somehow things went missing when they were around.
The .GOV didn't- and couldn't build roads or supply a school, build bridges that would make it easier for everyone- citizens got together and did it because it needed to be done.

She just couldn't fathom someone being out of reach of a central government, because she was born with the knowledge that a central gov't was and will always be there.
Now that she's in the wilds of Texas, she's starting to understand- and even starting to have contempt for the people she half-heartedly defended when she first got here.
