Except, he wasn't *really* working for the most articulate black presidential candidate in this race, because he was volunteering....or something.

That's just a background for this example of Frank Dodd's (D-Conn AND chair of the Senate Banking Committee) complete B.S. dissembling about special privileges commonplace in the offices of power.

OR you might (if you really believed this Bravo Sierra) end up realizing just how absolutely out of touch with *real* America most Congresscritters are.

Dodd, a leader of Congress' efforts to help homeowners ensnared in the subprime mortgage meltdown, reportedly got special treatment on his own mortgages from the CEO of Countrywide Financial Corp., a company whose practices he has called ``abusive.''

At least one other lawmaker, Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., also benefited from the VIP treatment after placing a personal call to Countrywide CEO Angelo Mozilo seeking a mortgage.

Both senators say they weren't aware they were getting special deals.

``As a United States senator, I would never ask or expect to be treated differently than anyone else refinancing their home,'' Dodd said in a statement. [bullchit! you think you're a king.]

Lawmakers' participation in the VIP program is coming to light just days after similar revelations prompted Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic nominee, to ax one of his vice presidential vetters, Jim Johnson, who also apparently benefited.

Conrad, the Budget Committee chairman, said it was Johnson who referred him to Mozilo [CEO of Countrywide] in 2002 when the North Dakotan was seeking a loan to buy a vacation home in Bethany Beach, Del.

`I called (Mozilo). I said, 'I'm buying this property. Would you be interested in the mortgage?', and he said, 'Yeah. Call these people and we'll take a look,''' Conrad said.

``I deal with the heads of companies every day, and I didn't find it at all unusual. I did not think for one moment - and no one ever suggested to me - that I was getting preferential treatment,'' Conrad said. `When my wife and I refinanced our loans in 2003, we did not seek or expect any favorable treatment. Just like millions of other Americans, we shopped around and received competitive rates,'' Dodd said. [No, your people made calls to pressure loan officers.]

Conrad obtained a $1.16 million loan from Countrywide in 2002 to buy his vacation home, then refinanced twice through the company. Portfolio reported that an internal e-mail from Mozilo instructed an employee to give Conrad a 1-percent discount off his interest rate on his 2004 refinance of $1.07 million, a savings of about $10,000 a year in interest payments.

`If they did me a favor, they did it without my knowledge and without my requesting it,'' Conrad said. ``It's an appearance issue, but in terms of substance, I have not done one single thing wrong here.'' [I didn't request but I'd be surprised if I didn't get a good rate.]

Countrywide also made an exception in lending Conrad $96,000 in 2004 to buy an 8-unit apartment building from his brothers. The company had a policy of only providing loans for buildings of four units or fewer.

``They said they frequently made exceptions, especially for good customers, and I was a very good customer,'' Conrad said.

An internal e-mail from Mozilo, however, said the exception was ``due to the fact that the borrower is a senator,'' according to the Portfolio report. [Finally the money quote!]

Green TV

I've been seeing advertising for this on Discovery channel quite a bit.
I was under the assumption that it was a new cable channel, but I guess you have to pay attention to know that it's webTV. Silly me, I DON"T pay much attention to commercials unless they're extremely good or teeth gratingly bad.

Anyway, I was wondering about just how green a mass broadcasting GreenTV can be, since they tout themselves as "totally Green!"
I don't know how to break it to them, but the power stations that make the electricity to power their servers, switches, routers and home computers belch out thousands of pounds of 'greenhouse gasses' daily to power their green network. --Because their Envirowako buddies fight tooth and nail against letting us go nuke in the U.S.

Then we have all the poisonous, caustic, exotic and rare materials that go into the production of all those electronic marvels that spread the 'green' word about living in harmony with Gaea.

And in addition to the usual Liberal hypocrisy about their 'feel goodism' you 8really8 need broadband to take advantage of this newest Green info network. If you're on dial-up your pretty mush SOL because you're on the wrong side of the digital divide.
But that's Ok because the people that put this together are copacetic because even if the result is tits-up, it's the *intent* that matters.

I went on the weekly grocery run today. $103 and change- it would have been alot more if I would have needed meat. Sorry hun, chicken doesn't count as meat.
AND almost EIGHT DOLLARS for a can of Folgers cofee- add another generic brand to the preferred list.
I guess it was good that no one showed up in the sporting goods section after they'd been paged or I'd have spent another $27 on 100rds of Win-white box.

Looks like I'll have to really think about getting a site up for pistol displays.
I have a Colt that needs feeding, and I'd rather other people helped.

See, the black dog has decided that she will not tolerate anything to move near the house.
That includes mice, frogs, spiders, and anything she can hear.
She'll dig and disturb anything she can, so naturally- they move away from the disturbance.

Our house is right in the middle of he 'patrol zone' so naturally everything she forces to mover heads toward the house.
I've taken care of the mouse problem (for now) and now we're seeing cockroaches- that we hadn't seen the entire time we've lived here.

And to make things even more interesting, I got shorted two days on this check and the A/C compressor is having problems. I hope it just needs a recharge.

It also seems that those pregnant prepubescent teens probably ended up there for a search engine hitcount more than -you know,,,there *really* being pregnant 13 year old girls there.

Annoying radio commercials

You know the ones. The ones where you just can't turn the thing off fast enough after you recognize the first voice,,,
There's a new one out by Verizon for their WiFi setup, or something. This one has a ditz in a coffe shop complaining about not being able to leave or she'll have to actualy close her laptop.

I think I was behind her this morning because whatever she was doing in that car didn't have anything to do with driving.

Feminine hygiene spray

I went shopping the other day at our local Walmart, which I guess is at the end of the supply line if you look at their selection.

This Walmart always smells like something different. Usually it smells like whatever got broken in the grocery section- mayo, pickle juice, cherry soda...
This week-end it smelled like feminine hygiene spray. All over the store.

What is it with that?
Is it supposed to hide the fact that somethings happening down there?
Is it really that bad that your personal space needs to alter whatever is happening?
My nose isn't that good, so maybe I just can't- and never could- smell 'that change'- except when women (teen girls) took a bath in the stuff.

Or is it just something for aerosol manufacturers to make a couple extra bucks on a natural function?
I had to go to a middle school the other day for work and during class change you could almost see the cloud of masking odor raising from the preteen crowd.

Barack Hussein Quayle

Dan Quayle didn't make as many gaffes in his V.P. term as as Barry O. does in one week.
But then again, Quayle is a Republican and Barry is the new anointed one.

His Memorial day orations include a speech in which he referred to "the unbroken line of fallen heroes", and then mentioning all those sitting there listening to him. His (typically white) uncle somehow liberated Auschwitz (and those typically white Jews) during WWII- before being discharged to hide in the attic for six months.

WOW, reality bites...

I was doing the weekly shopping at Wally-world when it hit me...we could really be heading for some kind of meltdown- all centered on the spiralling cost of energy.

I just got done looking at all the meat that I was getting priced out of and finally grabbing a tube of the Salmonella brand of 27/63% brand hamburger for $2.20/lb. Last year I was paying that for GOOD meat. Got a loaf of my Sam's bread (twice what it was 6 months ago) and Karen's high dollar fiber bread-with the obligatory sawdust sprinkling) for almost three dollars.
Then the ketsup, and on to the baking aisle- when it hit me.

Lard was 88cents- soon that's all the family would be able to afford as far as meat flavor.
That's when I remembered my Grandpa telling about their meals during the Depression.
They would make tomato soup out of ketsup and hot water.
Three days out of the week, their meat would be whatever got sopped-up when they fried their cornbread -in lard.

AND the potatoes, used in everything as an extender.

I wonder when I'll have to start looking up more of these recipes?

This time, just like last time- part of the cause is speculation driving prices and the government being unable to cope with what's happening.
In this case, though, the government is almost directly the cause of the spiraling costs of everything because of their unrealistic energy policies.

The Ethanol boondoggle rewarding their donors at 'Big Agriculture' with my tax money.
AND the absolute refusal to let us use our own oil.


I wonder what our next 'Hoovervilles' will be named after? 'Pelosivilles?' 'Obamavilles?'
Most likely it will be a Republican, sine in this case too the Dems will refuse to accept blame.
