Squirrel update
I found out here in Texas that squirrels have their kits, pups, squirrleings... in the summer- I guess so they're ready for the winter.
I thought I had a momma squirrel building a nest in the kitchen wall, but saw her two young ones watching me put in the floor joists for the *coff* temporary accommodations while we sell the doublewide and build the new house.
Now I can't just block off access to that part of the wall so they can escape when ready.
They just better escape before I get that part closed in.

So we have oak trees..
Lots of Burr Oaks.
And squirrels.
I need to set up a bird feeder so I can get fresh meat every day.

From a RACISTout of touch Conservative....
Tough shit, you did it to yourselves.
Now learn to live with another Senate run by Democrats.
You've spent all year calling anyone who wants common sense laws from you as "wacko-birds" racist who are going to revoke black voting rights, pandering to the amnesty crowd and doing everything you can to piss us off......
NOW it's dawning on you -less than 45 days from election day- that you're not getting money or support from the Tea Party.
Tough shit John Cornyn the ONLY republicans getting my vote are all conservatives, staying in the state of Texas.

I'm starting to wonder if that Jeep is possesed,,,
And it's name would be Cletus or Joe-Bob instead of something sexy like Christine,,,,,,,
Because I just can't get Joe Walsh out of my head lately-

Dear Radisson Suites,
Anheuser-Bush, Nike, Wheaties, Castrol and the Special Olympics.....
You certainly picked a slippery slope to take a moral stance.
Now tell me when you're going to force rap concerts, low rider shows, car clubs, Phat booty competitions and the like to stop pushing the misogynistic, violent and drug pushing that goes on in every rap song In my limited knowledge?
Please tell me where this slope stops?
Is it when the public isn't complaining?
Is it when you become knowledgeable of something happening?
Is it when something happens that "might' hurt your bottom line by having a bunch of whiny Liberals threaten to boycott you(even when you know they don't use your product)?
Well, Bud- you were my go-to choice, but I'm going to have to stand by my ideals too (the one that says a beer company should sell beer, not force people to do things).
Oh, look! Lone Star isn't affiliated with you :-)

Change orders
We are working for a really (really) rich school district at my current assignment.
Our plans called for the electric and data to be installed as per the prints.
The school electric engineers didn't like how the conduit was routed, so they made us change it....five times.
The 'Big Guy' loves to charge the shit for change orders, so he doesn't care.
We (Actually the guys doing the hard work) finally got it approved:
Then when I had to move some of the plumbers soils pipe to get back to a trench that had another change.... I found out they were using cast iron.
So I asked the plumber...
ME: This district isn't hurting for money-
HIM: Nope, and they don't care how much they spent on your change orders in the MDF rooms.
ME: So why are they putting that cast in that's going to rot away in 40 years?
HIM: LOL, you're not the only one that asked. We tried to let them let us us PVC, it's even in the specs that it can be used, we even had part of "A-bldg" done and they made us take it out.
ME: Oh,,,, ASO someone hase a relative that's in the cast iron supply bussiness.
HIM: Yep, most likely, and it's a cheap, crappy product that won't last 25 years.
ALSO:
On tomorrows To Do List-
Finish spreading that 60 yards of calichie** I got for free (+ the $750 it cost for delivery)
Either I use the farm tractor and box-blade or I rent a bach-hoe.

Well, lookie there....
I was pulling up to the trailer to back into the yard when I saw what I thought were vultures in the field behind.
Then I saw the wattle.
There are five of them, but they started moving off as I was taking the pic, so you can only see two one each side behind the tree.
Looks like I'm getting a turkey tag this year.

A quick walkaround
I've decided to at least upgrade the electric system to 12 volts and use a 12-6V resistor for the gauges.
1957 Willys with original hurricane engine.
I need to shorten the steering shaft a good 4" so it's not in my chest.
I need to get the original steering wheel and replace that after market one.

It's only rain people-
I know we haven't had any in six months, but it's only water on the roads, not oil.
AND another driving tip from Kurt--
You CAN pass a big yellow school bus when it's traveling down the road.
Seriously, PASS! IT!
Speaking of rain- We hit it coming back between Cheyenne, WY and almost to Pueblo, CO.
When you're towing a `57 Willies with a tow bar, it will hydroplane at over 65 MPH.

So we're back
Left fri. nite and got to Cody, Wy about 24 hours later to pick up a Jeep I talked myself into buying.
Yes it was a drunk bid on E-bay that I figured someone else would out bid me on.
So I picked up my 57 Willies Jeep and got here about three hours ago.
I don't even know how much I spent on saving money instead of having it shipped.
Now I know why he didn't include any pics of the dash, since it's missing everything but the central speedo/gauge cluster (just fuel and oil). Now I need to find out id the 6V system needs any kind of exciter or resistance to start charging.
It needs a brake job, new wiring, wiper motors and the steering shaft shortened about 8", because I can hardly steer and I know any females in this family would be having boob interference... because that's how high and far the wheel reaches.
BUT it has brand new tires :-)
And should still run when the Iranians, Norks or ISIS get a nuke on a missile that can barely make it (because that's all it needs) a couple thousand feet above the Rockies.

Two sox go in...
One comes out.
WTF? Seriously I put in one pair of sox, two shirts and two pair of Jeans because I'm going to the farm after the (unpaid) safety meeting tomorrow.
I got ONE sock out and it's not hidden in either shirt or pair of jeans that I can find.

So we try another packet and if that doesn't work- we have campaign yeast.
They survive better, but make drier wine.

Wine spodd-odee drinking wine, wine, pass that bottle to me!
So we meet our little yeasties, who have been doing a bang-up job in their little dark pot all week and start preparing for the next step.
I would say I racked the first ferment into the second ferment chamber, but in actuality- I scooped most of the big floating things off the top and poured the rest through a strainer into am enameled two gallon pot.
Then I poured the whole thing through a filter I made from the sleeve of a worn out shirt (after steeping it in bleach-water Friday night.
After straining and coaxing the rest of the fluids out of the strainer, adding 2 cups of sugar and about another quart of distilled ware, we got about two gallons.
Coloration-wise, I'm going to call it a nice shade of Magenta

At the ranch today
Well I was supposed to be at the ranch with a rented backhoe, but work interfered.
So I at least got to the rental co. before they delivered it- and don't have to pay the daily rental :-)
Instead I got to go to the yard and drive NI-35 south from the yard to work (twice).
I don't know who is the brain that decided to close off three out of four lanes of IH-35N on a Saturday morning when kids are relocating for school and other people are getting in the last minute ...togetherness.
I would have posted a video of that 6 mile long parking lot on my last trip, but by the time i was in my own truck, they'd just broken the dam, and vehicles were still at a stand-still. Don't know if it was a wreck, or another traffic "improvement"................ but I was heading south, and I knew that was clear..because I'd done that run twice already today.
But it's 8 hrs OT.

Tuna wine
No, not the fish- the cactus fruit.
Add boiling water- listen to them scream!
When they stop screaming (or are cool enough to peel) get your TSA "two by two, hands of blue" puncture resistant gloves on (but their not, I'm still working stickers out of my fingers) and start the slaughter.
Then start to break down the suspects in boiling water with a potato masher.
I read that too much boiling does something bad, so I just brought it to a boil and turned it off...to kill the bad stuff I didn't want.
Bring your ingredients together, and mix when cool enough not to murder the little yeasties.
And now we wait.
This better be good, because we have buttloads of this on the farm...
Right now it's sitting in a nice dark, coolish corner with a towel over it.
Next week (maybe) when it settles down, we'll rack it and add about two cups of sugar (and maybe some limes or oranges- someone said it needed citric acid) THEN begin the real fermenting :-D

So.... According to this chart....
we may as well just raise chickens because they're easier to take care of than rabbits and just as tasteless and lacking mouth feel....
The only real drawback with chickens is that we won't have soft leather to use...I guess.

So we went to the funshow today
Had lots of ammo for sale and for not much more than you can buy on a real store.
Lots of .22 out there.
We got 200 rounds for $20 and it looks like my .357 lever gun is going to be one of those Grail guns.
We walked the entire Saxet gun show and saw three. I din't like any enough to put down some $700 on.
It looks like I'm going to have to change what I'm looking for and see how available a wheel gun is in .45LC.

An issue involving the new "safe" fuel can
Someone had an excellent analogy about the creeping effects of government over-reach using the common fuel can as an example.
It went something like this- Some cube-dweller at a .GOV agency decided that the old fuel can (that worked and didn't spill fuel all over) was too dangerous.
So they mandated a new kind of spout...that didn't work.
Then they mandated another kind that spilled fuel all over (making thing safer, you know).
Then they redid the regulations several times until we get the lates "safety can that we have today.
It's an automatic spring closing cap that operates by pulling back on the carrying handle.
Except- that the ONLY way to secure it in a pick-up bed is to use that same handle to secure it to the bedrail.
THEN when someone drops a grill into the next lane over and you have to make sudden braking and evasion maneuvers from the car next to you ....
That same handle will spill diesel from the canted-over can.
Then we get into the aerodynamics of a pick-up with a closed tailgate and what it does with half a gallon of sloshing diesel.

They do a controlled drop without an E-efing- 7 running around with his hands jammed in his pockets.
This is how it's supposed to go..........
