We have the admission of CNN that they quit even trying to be a news organization with their newest show- the "Kathy and Anderson Show".

Plus, someone needs to tell Lurch that it's bad for his brain to be putting too much stress on a body that has so many Purple Heart awards.

A tale of a texas schoolhouse

Back in 1937 there was a schoolhouse in New London, Tx which was responsible for the odor you associate with natural gas today.

On this day in 1937, a massive explosion caused the steel-framed school building in New London, in Rusk County, to collapse, killing a reported 298 people. It was the worst school disaster in United States history. Of the 500 students in the building, only about 130 escaped serious injury. The explosion, which was heard four miles away, occurred when a manual-arts teacher turned on a sanding machine and inadvertently ignited a mixture of gas and air. Three days after the explosion, inquiries were held to determine the cause of the disaster. Investigators learned that in January 1937, to save gas expenses of $300 a month, the school board and superintendent had authorized plumbers to tap a residue gas line of H. L. Hunt's Parade Gasoline Company.

After investigating, the TX Railroad Commission ordered that, because natural gas is almost unidentifiable by people without gas detectors, there be added to all domestic and utility gas an odorizer  so anyone would know when the had a gas leak.

This orodizer comes in two types, B.P. Captain and Mercaptan. Both have the sulphery smell that we now associate with gas.

The price of convenience

Yesterday, instead of searching for a set of contacts for the A/C, I got one from a tech- off his truck.
That part online was about $28 (+shipping) but they wanted $50.

I ended up going into San Antonio anyway and bought Karens birthday meal and we headed over to get brewing supplies for the next experiment in potent potables.

PLUS I filled up both trucks and still have to do the weeks shopping...........

So I went into town today

I went to cash a check that the .GOV doesn't need to know about.
On the way back I stopped at a pawn shop and almost bought a SMLE carbine for $230 except that the sales-people were busy with a lot of other people and I didn't see one box of .303 anywhere.

so I was on the way home when I saw...

...And said to myself- should I? It doesn't look that crowded...
Then I was turning in from the far driveway, I saw the overflow lot:

So I put $140 in the Paypal bank and came home to hoard the rest.

So I got done with my other job today

And Karen and I went to Hondo for dinner, where we found every eatery almost brimming with customers. After ending up at Pizza Hut with almost no customers (for good reason), I realized that it was March 1st and the Sequester didn't affect all those .GOV handouts today.

This brings up two important points:
1- If your old boss really needs someone to use a rock drill, it's ok to get $20/hr (cash) for sitting on a noisy machine for 8 hours.

2- That fiscal cliff we're supposed to worry about is more like a sidewalk curb.

Something to think about

Remember the MSM and it's Democrat allies in DeeCee complaining about Bush when the gas prices were this high?
Then we also had those evil, greedy oil Speculators running up the price of gas just to hurt poor people.

That the Democrats will throw the election so the Republican party gets all the blame-- and they won't even know what hit them, because they'll be so busy telling each other that "the people have finally recognized our fiscal restraint!"

Then as the Stupid Party usually does, they'll be blindsided by the avalanche of debt and accusations from the MSM of causing it all and crushing the GOP forever.

I just hope we have a better party waiting in the wings that can will fight back as hard as the Dems are giving it.
