Just Daym!
Please tell me they aren't really going to shut down the Winchester rifle factory.
I know, it's a fact of capitalism and all, but that's an American Icon. Hell, even the Union is helping management look for a buyer.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- U.S. Repeating Arms Co. Inc. said Tuesday it will close its Winchester firearm factory, threatening the future of a rifle that was once called "The Gun that Won the West."
"It's part of who we are as a nation just like it's part of who we are as a city," Mayor John DeStefano said.
The announcement touched off a lobbying effort by city officials and union leaders who hoped to find a buyer for the plant before it closes March 31. If no buyer comes forward, it could spell the end for nearly all commercially produced Winchesters, said Everett Corey, a representative of the International Association of Machinists District 26.
I've never owned a Winchester, but have shot several of them sweet thangs. There is a sense of history in just the name, it's the 'gun that won the west', Teddy Roosevelt used them. Chuck Conners wouldn't have been "The Rifleman" without a Winchester. Sure there were other makes, Henry, Marlin, Spencer, Remington- but the one that resonates is the Winchester-with visions of the lone cowboy holding off a horde of Cheyenne Indians.
I wish I had the money to buy one right now.

These two studies need to be filed under "No Chit- sherlock"
First we have this British waste of money which discovered that-
Are you sitting down? (of course you are, you're at a computer)
There's less air polution on the sidewalk than in the street!
On average, taxi passengers were exposed to more than 100,000 ultra-fine particle counts per cubic centimeter. Bus travelers were exposed to just under 100,000 and people in cars about 40,000.
Pedestrians and bicyclists, meanwhile, were exposed to counts of just 5,000 and 8,000, respectively.
Next on the "I'm glad we didn't pay for that" list is- The scientific fact that women smell differently at different times of the month.
They did a gen-u-ine scientific study with pit sniffing and all.
As a guy who's been interested in wimmin since -ohhh, about the age of THIRTEEN; I can tell you they didn't need a study for that. I can also tell you for a fact- without a costly study that wimmin are actually nekkid under all them cloths. I've known that since puberty, too.

Well, good on Google
I see that they're fighting the govt' on handing over search engine records.
I know that as any good liberal arm, they won't hesitate to use a 20 yr-old search to hurt a Conservative candidate in the future.
But now they have defied the govt' demand for search results.
See the govt' is looking at child pornographers. Ok, that's good- but DON'T start dredging search requests.
If anyone should be doing something about child porn and kids having access to pornography, it should be the parents. Both girls have computers, but they're nott connected to the internet. I know they won't intentionally search for porn, but it is fairly easy to get into trouble. I made a deal with them- they get internet in their rooms, I put a keylogger on. They both decided to use the family computer.
I know that sooner or later they'll be free to make their own mistakes, but hopefully we at least gave them somekind of standards to judge their actions and computer habits by. The government doesn't need to be babysitting the internet- the parents do.
Google is fighting the request on two main points; privacy and trade secrets.
Google was asked for information on the types of query submitted over a week, and the websites included in its index.
The department wants the data to try to show in court it has the right approach in enforcing an online pornography law.
It says the order will not violate personal privacy, but Google says it is too broad and threatens trade secrets.
Privacy groups say any sample could reveal the identities of Google users indirectly. And they say the demand is a worrying precedent, because the government also wants to make more use of internet data for fighting crime and terrorism.
The privacy part, I think is because it's the Bush administration asking- I somehow don't see any Libs kicking so much if a Clinton appointee would have asked.
Also, they don't want their competition getting any trade secrets from the results.
I also see that Yahoo! rolled right over on us-again, and so did MSN .
I would use Google search except that I KNOW that in the future it'll hold my porn searches against me, and most importantly I don't like the way they display their results.
I guess I'll make another home page, and rely on Dogpile for my searches.

A question of preference
Since this is a consumer oriented society, I guess I could ask all three of my consumers (you) if you'd prefer another blogalaunch, or just me adding links as I find them?
I'm adding Johns egocentric world on a link from My favorite coonass. In the words of Dave Berry- that would make a cool band name.

The book report
Students were assigned to read two books, "Titanic" & "My Life" by Bill
Clinton. One student turned in the following book report, with
the proposition that they were nearly identical stories! His professor
gave him an A+ for this report:
Titanic: $29.99
Clinton: $29.99
Titanic: Over 3 hours to read
Clinton: Over 3 hours to read
Titanic: The story of Jack and Rose, their forbidden love, and subsequent
catastrophe.
Clinton: The story of Bill and Monica, their forbidden love, and subsequent
catastrophe.
Titanic: Jack is a starving artist.
Clinton: Bill is a bullshit artist.
Titanic: In one scene, Jack enjoys a good cigar.
Clinton: Ditto for Bill.
Titanic: During ordeal, Rose's dress gets ruined.
Clinton: Ditto for Monica.
Titanic: Jack teaches Rose to spit.
Clinton: Let's not go there.
Titanic: Rose gets to keep her jewelry.
Clinton: Monica's forced to return her gifts.
Titanic: Rose remembers Jack for the rest of her life.
Clinton: Clinton doesn't remember Jack.
Titanic: Rose goes down on a vessel full of seamen.
Clinton: Monica...ooh, let's not go there, either.
Titanic: Jack surrenders to an icy death.
Clinton: Bill goes home to Hilary...basically the same thing.

It's been a while since my last Blog-a-launch
And being as Blogger just ate my "Libs had a spontaneous orgasm" post about what they'll be saying when Osamas' voice was confirmed- and how we'll deserve it for letting Bush continue the GWoT. Etcetera, etcetera, ad nausium.
Miriams Ideas is worth a look, she seems to have a pretty good outlook on life, and she links to The trouser Quandry which is a bit of a British "Onion."
And back on this side of the pond, real close to home is Rednecks Revenge from Texas, anyone starting to see a trend in my blogroll?
This is the latest incarnation of Aarons Rantblog Aarons CC , who you've probably already got on your blogroll.
Last but not least is someone who I know has looked at my blog at least once (because I got a comment from him) is WMD blog.
As a Heads-up to some of my bloggers who haven't updated in over a month-
There are plenty of bloggers who DO post regularly, it takes less effort to take you off than it does to put you on.

Nothing really worth reading, just a rant
I had to work 2 hours O.T. tonight- which was ok, I have vehicle repairs to pay for.
I got out and headed home through Converse, my little shortcut past the Flying-J truckstop for it's less expensive gasoline. The Jusdon I.S.D. (school) cops had the road blocked off for something and detoured everyone onto Hwy 78- The main road off Randolph AFB- at quitting time. So I went the long way down 1604 to I-1-/Hwy 90 and west. Half an hour lost there, got off the interstate and saw the serving lines full because they dropped the gas to $2.13. CRAP. I'll get it tomorrow.
Down the interstate we went- AT the speed limit- with no cops in view.
finally getting to 410 west when we cross some grass fires. Soooo, what do the two Mexicans in the left two lanes do? Slow down to 5 f*cking miles an hour! So they could see better and see if Kurt could get rear-ended in the smoke. It took me 2 hours to get home today.
I got home and ended up cooking (finishing) fajitas, then the sides. Finally I can sit down after about 14 hours of running and working!
Wife told me the $1,250 repairs are done to the Dodge (A/C and heater core)- and they couldn't find the vacuum leak, either. Ok, get in and on the road to drive some more.
Gawd, I'm getting tired of driving on the interstate without getting payed for it!
The thing that really pushed me over the edge was the whale in Corpus Christi.
Registration req., so I'll take the liberty to print it all out with appropriate comments.
Two rare whales spotted in ship channel
Mother and her calf were seen heading back toward the Gulf
By Beth Wilson Caller-Times
January 17, 2006
Corpus Christi Bay had a visit from an unusual pair of winter Texans on Monday with the sighting of an endangered Northern Right whale and her calf.
"It's an absolute mystery how they got here," said Tony Amos, director of ARK and a research fellow at the University of Texas Marine Science Institute in Port Aransas, Tx.
Amos said he got a call from a tanker pilot who thought he had hit one of the whales. Amos and some others from the institute first went out at 11 a.m. Monday to investigate.
"The first time we were halfway across Corpus Christi Bay, heading up the ship channel and we found the two," he said. The mother looked about 40 feet to 50 feet long and about 60 tons.(remember this- me) The calf, about 15 to 20 feet long, had two cuts on its back, he said.
Amos said he took photos and returned to shore to contact the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration which has a group that deals with endangered whales.
On his second trip out, Amos said, the whales had moved several miles closer to sea, and were seen near Naval Station Ingleside. He said it appeared the calf was suckling as the two were swimming in circles.
Northern Right whales seek warmer waters in winter off the coasts of Georgia and Florida. They've been an endangered species since 1973 and their population in the Atlantic is about 300. They got their name because they were a popular target of whalers and floated when they were dead, making retrieval easier, and therefore making them the "right" whales to go after, according to information from NOAA.
"It was incredible," Amos said of the whale sighting. "First, when we went out we were skeptical. It's a real thrill, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see such a rare animal. But also we felt some concern because they shouldn't be where they are."
Amos said the U.S. Coast Guard will set up a safe zone, and sent a notice to members of the shipping industry to be on the lookout for these whales and avoid contact.
A Coast Guard spokeswoman said the first report came to them about 3 p.m. and a crew went out to see if the whales were injured.
"We're asking the maritime public to use precaution as they transit Corpus Christi Bay or any of the surrounding areas so they don't cause injury," she said.
Amos said he would continue to monitor the whales, and hopes they head out to sea.
Ok, so a whale is in the Laguna Madre. They measure what? I told you to remember?- class? About 50 feet and 60 toms. An oil tanker ( the majority of comm. shipping) is about 1000 feet long and god-only-knows how many HUNDREDS of tons. It takes about 3/4 of a mile to even start to turn the thing, and miles to come to a complete stop. They're supposed to avoid hitting a whale that could swim circles arounf them?
Sounds like someone from the CoastGuard had a mike in their face, with a Legacy media type asking "what are you going to do to protect the whales?"

Nothing newsworthy strikes my fancy
This quiz did though.
I be a
Realist
Realists…
* Are guided more by practical considerations than ideological vision
* Believe US power is crucial to successful diplomacy - and vice versa
* Don't want US policy options unduly limited by world opinion or ethical considerations
* Believe strong alliances are important to US interests
* Weigh the political costs of foreign action
* Believe foreign intervention must be dictated by compelling national interest
Historical realist: President Dwight D. Eisenhower
Modern realist: Secretary of State Colin Powell
BUT, if I'd answered two questions differently, I (think) would be an
Isolationist
The term isolationist is most often used negatively; few people who share its beliefs use it to describe their own foreign policy perspective. They believe in "America first." For them, national sovereignty trumps international relations. Many unions, libertarians, and anti-globalization protesters share isolationist tenets.
Isolationists…
* Are wary of US involvement in the United Nations
* Oppose international law, alliances, and agreements
* Believe the US should not act as a global cop
* Support trade practices that protect American workers
* Oppose liberal immigration
* Oppose American imperialism
* Desire to preserve what they see as America's national identity and character
Historical isolationist: President Calvin Coolidge
Modern isolationist: Author/Commentator Pat Buchanan

Good, start culling them all
I don't have a dog in this fight, I just have alot of antipathy for Greenpeace and the vast majority of enviro-wackjobs that need to interfere in everything they don't personally like.
And raise my costs all over the board because of their media/political pull.
Now, the Japanese whalers are starting to play rough in response to those eco-Nazis tactics.
CANBERRA (Reuters) - A Japanese whaling harpoon narrowly missed an inflatable boat carrying environmental protesters, causing one to fall into the freezing sea, as both sides warn their face-off is becoming increasingly dangerous.
The Greenpeace vessel Arctic Sunrise has been shadowing the Japanese whaling fleet for several weeks in an attempt to disrupt Japan's annual whale hunt, prompting a heated exchange on January 8 when the Greenpeace ship and a Japanese ship collided.
I'd call it a pretty good shot when you can-
In the latest incident on Saturday, the harpoon came within a meter of the inflatable boat as it tried to shield a minke whale, the environmental group said.
The harpoon's trailing line knocked one activist into the sea. He scrambled back aboard the boat without injury.
If they're too dense to realize that those whalers are out there to put food on the table (literally and figuratively) and mean business, they deserve to become candidates for the Darwin Awards.

I got a late start shopping today, so I had to put up with every f*cking Mexican in south Texas in HEB. I don't think I heard more than three complete sentinces in english before I got to the cashier. Not only were they out in force, they were gang-shopping. They took the entire family to the store mamá, tía, abuela and niños- and each one HAD to have a shopping cart. Parked side by side. C'mon mujados, this is an American HEB, not that third world mercado that you're used to.
Not only did I have to put-up with all those wonderful results of coruption and greed south of the border, I was treated to the results of out resident leaders in D.C. Yep, prices are going up because of fuel costs. The leaders in D.C- ALL of them- are afraid to do anything that would make the Legacy media talk even worse about them.
We're not going to do anything about our fuel problems because the REPUBLICANS are letting the eco-wacos set our energy policy, which means higher prices for everything, including the transport to deliver already overpriced fuel.
I'm thinking about starting to slap stickers on gas pumps saying:
"If you like these prices, be sure to thank . . .
-a Liberal"
-Your Congressman (with Kay Baily-Hutchinsons phone number on it)"
-a Democrat"
Gawd, I hate paying these prices when I know we don't have to.

Recently a brand called "Red Earth" decreased their prices from $67 to
$9.90.
It contained lead. Lead is a chemical which causes cancer.
The Brands which contain lead are:
1. CHRISTIAN DIOR
2. LANCOME
3. CLINIQUE
4. Y.S.L
5. ESTEE LAUDER
6. SHISEIDO
7. RED EARTH (Lip Gloss)
8. CHANEL (Lip Conditioner)
9. MARKET AMERICA-MOTNES LIPSTICK.
The higher the lead content, the greater the chance of causing cancer.
After doing a test on lipsticks, it was found that the Y.S.L. lipstick
contained the most amount of lead.
Watch out for those lipsticks which are supposed to stay longer. If
your lipstick stays longer, it is because of the higher content of lead.
Here is the test you can do yourself:
1. Put some lipstick on your hand.
2. Use a Gold ring to scratch on the lipstick.
3. If the lipstick color changes to black then you know
the lipstick contains lead.

First, before I even looked in Snopes, I knew that you pretty much have to ingest- eat or drink relativly large quantites of lead to cause problems, and I thought it was mental type problems.
I also didn't know that Dioxin was in the lead family.
Snopes has this to say about the mailing:
We spoke with a compliance officer at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) about the possibility of lead being present in lipsticks. All dyes used in foodstuffs or cosmetics have to be vetted by the FDA for safety, and although some of the colorants the FDA grants approval to do contain lead, it is present in such miniscule amounts that is has no adverse effects on consumers. Manufacturers who wish to do business in the USA are restricted to the use of FDA-certifiable colors only; otherwise their products will not be allowed in the country or onto the shelves of American stores.
-AND-
The streaks that supposedly herald the presence of lead in one's lipstick are in reality dark marks produced by the testing agents themselves. Gold, silver, copper, and pewter leave these trails no matter what they're rubbed against, in the same way that pencils make marks on whatever surfaces they are trailed along. That these marks appear more prominent against a lipstick backdrop is attributable to contrast — streaks that look grey against a white background seem brown against a reddish background, and brown is a color more readily picked out by the eye.
Kinda like rubbing tarnish off of metal.
Anyway, go figgure- I got lied to on the internet.
The latest scaremail du jur
If there is a female you care anything about, share this with her. I
did!!!!! I am also sharing this with the males on my email list,
because they need to tell the females THEY care about as well!
Please send this information to all your girlfriends, wives and female
family members.

Congratulations, DONKS- for making the girl cry
Yep, the partisan, hypocritical attacks from the rabid left finally got to MRS ALITO , she couldn't take it any more when after repeated attacks on her husband by race-baiting elitist snobs from "privileged" backgrounds.

Gawd, I wish I could find that money quote
I was listening to "WOAI , the blowtorch of south Texas" on the way home, and hear a news clip I wish I could find- I guess "they" know how bad it sounded and got it lost.
The original story was about how well San Antonio is doing, job-wise. I had to hear it again when the rosy jobs prospects were dashed- yes, dashed by the news that the new border fence would hurt new employers from looking here.
REALLY?!?!!? WHAT???
And here I thought they were talking about quality jobs, not more low skilled, low wage jobs that only an illegal would take. They were just talking about all the jobs Toyota was bringing, and Wachovia- cool, maybe I'll turn into a jackbooted Union Thug- except that Texas is a "right to work" state- don't have to join a union to work.
THEN they turn around and put a soundbite of some S.A. City spokes-flack telling about how prospective new businesses will be turned off by the border fence- keeping prospective workers away, , , or some chit.
For as many air bases as San Antonio has, you'd think it would be a little more conservative. But then again 3/4 of the population is helping their illegal kinfolk sponge off the govt' here.

I thought only the EVIL Rethuglicans wanted to persecute you for your library books
Remember the kid who lied (don't have time to look it up) about getting the "midnight knock" on his door for checking out a copy of the little red book of Mao?
How about Ted Kennedy using Sam Alito's library records to try to hank him?
Is it a different thing to do the Patriot Act on a Rethuglican than a terrorist under invrstigation?
As long as I'm on the subject, how many people WERE really questioned about their library book selections?

This goes to show that the anchor doesn't fall far from the boat
We're busy with laptop problems here, so check out the mutiny against Capt. Bligh.
Really, it's the shore establishment, this time- not the crew of the HMS Bounty, and nobody named Christian was noted in the article.

I wonder if this is her?
I have an occasional commenter named Rachel, but she doesn't leave any links.
I found this Rachel's blog from
the Hatemongers Quarterly.
Go take a look at a pretty good blog.
She's cute, too!

I was going to make a post about the usual D.C. hypocrisy
But decided, hell- everyone else on the right (maybe the left, too- I don't read the D.U. or Kos) is going to, why should I add my electrons.
Besides I really don't want to spend my night dredging up alot of what the Klan Kennedy has been accused of, from Rum-running to rape.
So, when the Dems decide who gets to ask which question
Do they ever think- WHOA,,,, That guy bringing up questions about that subject could really backfire on us?
Or do they just pick questions out of a hat, and whatever goes goes?
You have Ted Kennedy lecturing about waterboarding(making people feel like they're drowning)- and why wouldn't anyone with even the faintest brush with history remember when he REALLY drowned Mary Jo? He really knows about drowning, doesn't he?
Instead lets talk about R-E-S-P-E-C-T
Generally when we think about Great Briton, we think about the polite law-abiding stiff upperlipped gentry, and their well mannered commoners.
That quaint view hasn't been reality in a decade-or so. Their education system is as bad or worse than ours, the liberal nanny state has taken over as the parents- and responsibility is on it's way out, too. Alot has to do with the fer'ners coming in from their former colonies- and their own illegals problem (thanks to the Chunnel).
Well, the liberal, lazi-fair social experiment is coming to a close.
How about the English version of Hillaries book it takes a village (NOT the dog one- or was it a cat?).
They're going to start enforcing legal actions for "actions of anti-social behavior"
Have a look at what we're looking at if we don't start acting like responsible adults. You know the drill, let everyone get away with almost anything they want, , , until it gets too far out of control- then drop the safe on everyone with the "ZERO TOLERANCE" hammer.
Which is typical Liberal way of thinking as they slam conservatives for telling kids right from wrong, and trying to turn them into responsible adults. Without having to resort to the Zero- tolerance BS.
(UPDATE JAN 11) I really shoulda done spell check before that librarian got here.

I guess you'd call this poetic justice
See, asadist unelightened senior citizen decided to burn a mouse to death- but burned his house down instead. See, instead of bashing the poor thing with a shovel, THEN tossing it on the fahr (that's Texan of fire)- ol Luciano tosses a live mouse into the burning leaves. Read about the hilarity that ensued after the mouse ran BACK into his house.
I'm not going to make the connection between N.M., Bill Richards, a Spanish name, Democrats and casual cruelty -in spite of the ban on torture going through the Congress right now- Nope, not gonna do it. It's too easy (and cheap).

I made a post a little over a month ago forcasting something
Want to know what it was?
It was the post predicting that the Govt' will be paying for hotel rooms as far into the future as you can see.
Here's the AP story on the "Motels for life" program.
Some of the swamp people want to extend their thanks to Houston for helping N'awlins alot more than they'd barganed for.

Well, another one bites the dust
Yep, Tom Delay stepped down as House Leader today.
The Democratic attack machinery is in fine repair when it comes to hounding Republicans out of leadership positions. What's that make now? Four? Five?
Any time there's a question- a hint of not being 110% above board ethically, the same ol' lynch mob starts baying.
Then, we have the Democrats who if the story gets out in spite of the Legacy Media- you'd go deaf from the silence. These self-same paragons of finger pointing morality give the truth to the expression "It takes one to know one." In spades.
I have to admit that I'll be glad to get the Bush presidency behind us. Let the open wounds heal.
I just wish the Anti-Bush lunatics would quit ripping open the scabs every time they breath.
Abe Lincoln was treated the same way in his time. Gawd how it must grate on the Moonbats to even THINK of the possibility that Bu$Halburton=Hitler could even come close to Lincoln.
I know they keep pointing to the Clinton Era and how he was (mis)treated by the "Vast Rightwing Conspiracy"- but I don't remember Republican polititians Demanding he step down for every mis-step made (or made-up) in his administration. Sure, He went through an Impeachment hearing- for LYING UNDER OATH. It's called perjury. He should have known the consequences, he's the lawyer- I'm not, and I know I'd go to jail for lying under oath.
But that's the difference between Liberals and Conservatives/Republicans isn't it?
One gets a free pass and all their buddies tripping over themselves in order to praise and protect the (alleged) wrongdoer; and the other side tripping over themselves to kick their ex-leader/friend/political ally when their down.

Any body notice the price of gas lately?
Ok, stop throwing rocks!
Down here, in the last two days- or so, gas has gone up between a dime and 20 cents/gal. I heard THIS increase was oil speculators.
It doesn't matter, we shouldn't be at the mercy of anyone except our own "Big Oil". Not those camel humpers in the mid-est, not the neo-commies in South America, not the speculators on the floor of the stock market. And for sure not at the tender mercies of those eco-Nazis that want us to melt down every internal combustion engine in America to make bicycles.
I just wrote a note thanking my Congress critters for their efforts in our energy problems,
it went to:
Kay Baily-Hutchinson
John Cornyn
(Both Republican Senators)
And my Representative, Henry Bonilla (R-Tx)
I would like to thank you for the job youÂre doing up there in Washington, D.C.
I know you have all kinds of things on your agenda to take care of, so IÂd like to tender my heartfelt feelings on the way youÂre running things up there- being the majority party in the White house and both houses of Congress. I know it is VERY important to act in a Bi-partisan way, to get along with the Democrats; which brings me to the point of my letter.
IÂm not sure if you know that in the past two days (as I write this) gas prices have risen between 9 cents and 20 cents per gallon out here in middle America. IÂd really like to thank you for letting the Democrats and their Eco-Nazis set our energy policy.
If you and the rest of the Republicans would ACT like youÂve been in power for the last five years, we wouldnÂt be at the mercy of oil speculators, hurricanes and other factors in energy price spikes.
I fully expect you (the party) to cave in to every Liberal Democratic temper-tantrum that they want to throwÂinterestsintrests of ÂBi-PartisanshipÂ. After all, if you started acting like the Majority party, then the News Media would say bad things about you- thatÂs OK, they didnÂt vote for you- and never will.
I voted for you, and a lot of people feel that youÂve left us standing here all by ourselves in your quest for more votes. We didnÂt move to the right, we sat here and watched you drift to the left.
Again, thank you for letting the Democrats run policy up in DC, IÂm sure IÂm not the only one whoÂll remember why weÂre standing here on the right all by ourselves. IÂm just wondering, how high are you going to let fuel prices rise before you get the backbone to try to force the issue?
I'll let y'all know when I recieve my replies begging me for my vote.
Stop LAUGHING, I'm serious here.

Well, we're going to the Saxet gun show this weekend
I've been trying to find out if the anti-gun Nazis have made background checks mandatory at gun shows in Texas. I can't find it by searching. I can find alot of cr@p from about 2002, but nothing telling me if I have to make the trip the next day to pick up the gun.
Cr@p, all I want is to walk out with a revolver. A .22 revolver that the neighbor's think is a pellet gun. Anyone with common sense knows that most crimes are committed by criminals with (somekind) of illegal weapon, anyway. Thanks alot you woosy 'fraidycats who would rather see your kids grow-up without morals or consciences than see them learn self control by having to hold back any kind of impulse.
(UPDATE 01-04-05) I found it, had to go to the enemies site to find out. I kinda like seeing all those red "NO"s up there.
(UPDATE to my UPDATE)
The anti-gun lobby has one state/Federal law wrong.
ASSAULT WEAPONS
Are there limitations on assault weapons and magazines? No
No state restriction on the sale or possession of military-style semiautomatic assault weapons like the AK47 and Uzi. Assault weapons are as easy to buy as hunting rifles. No restriction on the sale or possession of rapid-fire ammunition magazines that can fire up to 100 bullets without reloading. Federal law does prevent the sale of some assault weapons and rapid-fire magazines manufactured after 1994, but the federal law will sunset in 2004 unless Congress and President Bush renew it
See, REAL assault weapons HAVE been banned (exept for special licences) since about the '30s. No public citizen can own or fire a fully automatic weapon without the gov't approving it. These so-called "Assault Weapons" are ugly semi-automatics. You can do as much harm with a semi-automatic that doesn't fit the decription of "Assault Weapon" as you can with one of those ulgly ones that do fit the description.
So, what's the difference? One type is "scarier" than the other.
