Shooting yourself in the foot?

So I was somewhere and ended up on a site that mentioned online anonymity, and hiding your info from hugely intrusive search engines with their sneaky data gathering bots.

So do I need to send this snip over the the Failblog?
Because no-one who had the technology would trace you on a private search engine, would they?

So,,,, when is Big Sister going to declare it to be an act of domestic terrorism to anonomise your surfing?

  1. I don't understand. Do you have something specific against Start Page? I don't think they claim that Big Sis can't track you there.

    1. Yeah, I understand they're using Google data. They claim to have (sort of) anonymized it.

When you search with Startingpage, we remove all identifying information from your query and submit it anonymously to Google ourselves. We get the results and return them to you in total privacy.

Your IP address is never recorded, your visit is not logged, and no tracking cookies are placed on your browser. When it comes to protecting your privacy, Startingpage runs the tightest ship on the Internet. Our outstanding privacy policy and thoughtful engineering give you great search results in total anonymity.

Of course I don't know if a syllable of that is true. But if you know for sure it isn't true, I'd appreciate hearing more. I'm not arguing with you, I'm just wondering.

  3. I don't know, I'm just making assumptions based on what they have done in the past and the fact that being a Liberal is all about control- no matter how unethical it is.

Not that anyone with a "ruler" mindset is any different, but Libs are more open about it.
